Religion
Jebertis are all Muslims and the term came to encompass all East Africans and, later, other Africans who have converted to Islam. Although this usage was later dropped as Islam spread across Africa, the original meaning is still evident as any Tigrinya or Amharic speaker who converts to Islam is called "Jeberti".

“Your honesty is not to be based either on religion or policy. Both your religion and policy must be based on it. Your honesty must be based, as the sun is, in vacant heaven; poised, as the lights in the firmament, which have rule over the day and over the night.”
—John Ruskin (18191900)
“There is more religion in mens science than there is science in their religion.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“The Civil rights of none shall be abridged on account of religious belief or worship, nor shall any national religion be established, nor shall the full and equal rights of conscience be in any manner, or on any pretext, be infringed.”
—James Madison (17511836)
