After Provincial Politics
McCrae ran for Mayor of Brandon in 2002, but lost to Dave Burgess. His campaign was hindered by local opposition to some of the decisions he had made while in government. He did not seek re-election to the provincial legislature in 2003.
He makes his living as a real estate agent and was re-elected to Brandon city council in October 2006 after a 20 year hiatus. He also wrote a book in 2006, Dancing Winds, a romance set during the second World War at a concentration camp.

Famous quotes containing the words provincial and/or politics:
“With respect to a true culture and manhood, we are essentially provincial still, not metropolitan, mere Jonathans. We are provincial, because we do not find at home our standards; because we do not worship truth, but the reflection of truth; because we are warped and narrowed by an exclusive devotion to trade and commerce and manufacturers and agriculture and the like, which are but means, and not the end.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“Man made one grave mistake: in answer to vaguely reformist and humanitarian agitation he admitted women to politics and the professions. The conservatives who saw this as the undermining of our civilization and the end of the state and marriage were right after all; it is time for the demolition to begin.”
—Germaine Greer (b. 1939)
