History
Cape Norway (81°12′N 55°37′E / 81.2°N 55.617°E / 81.2; 55.617) on the western part of the island was where Fridtjof Nansen and Hjalmar Johansen wintered in 1895-96 after failing to reach the North Pole. A hut and a wooden post still remain.
