History
Jacana station opened on 15 February 1959, amid residential subdivision of the area. The railway through the area having opened in 1872 as part of the North East railway to Wodonga, and then electrified as far as Broadmeadows in 1921. Construction of the station required the slewing of both the up and down lines to make room for the platform, as well as the flyover for the standard gauge line under construction at the same time.

Famous quotes containing the word history:
“They are a sort of post-house,where the Fates
Change horses, making history change its tune,
Then spur away oer empires and oer states,
Leaving at last not much besides chronology,
Excepting the post-obits of theology.”
—George Gordon Noel Byron (17881824)
“The history of any nation follows an undulatory course. In the trough of the wave we find more or less complete anarchy; but the crest is not more or less complete Utopia, but only, at best, a tolerably humane, partially free and fairly just society that invariably carries within itself the seeds of its own decadence.”
—Aldous Huxley (18941963)
“We may pretend that were basically moral people who make mistakes, but the whole of history proves otherwise.”
—Terry Hands (b. 1941)
