J D Wetherspoon - Operations

Operations

In December 2009, Wetherspoon operated 743 pubs in the United Kingdom and planned to invest £250 million in 250 new pubs across the country over five years. As of February 2011, according to their website, the chain currently operates 833 pubs UK-wide.

Wetherspoon pioneered having non-smoking areas in pubs even before the Smoking, Health and Social Care (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Health Act 2006 in England introduced smoking bans in public houses, and started converting some of its pubs to completely non smoking in 2005 before introducing a complete ban in 2006.

Wetherspoon also own and run a chain of hotels (known until 17 September 2009 as "Wetherspoon Lodges" or "WetherLodges", but now as Wetherspoon Hotels, following a rebranding exercise) in the UK. There are currently 17 hotels in total, with 11 in England, 3 in Wales and 3 in Scotland.

Famous quotes containing the word operations:

A sociosphere of contact, control, persuasion and dissuasion, of exhibitions of inhibitions in massive or homeopathic doses...: this is obscenity. All structures turned inside out and exhibited, all operations rendered visible. In America this goes all the way from the bewildering network of aerial telephone and electric wires ... to the concrete multiplication of all the bodily functions in the home, the litany of ingredients on the tiniest can of food, the exhibition of income or IQ.
    Jean Baudrillard (b. 1929)

Plot, rules, nor even poetry, are not half so great beauties in tragedy or comedy as a just imitation of nature, of character, of the passions and their operations in diversified situations.
    Horace Walpole (1717–1797)

There is a patent office at the seat of government of the universe, whose managers are as much interested in the dispersion of seeds as anybody at Washington can be, and their operations are infinitely more extensive and regular.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
