Ivy Bank County Primary School - History and Development

History and Development

The school opened in 1966 and has been extended several times since then, the latest addition being the Resource Base unit for children with learning difficulties.

Currently (as at 2010), the school has approximately 330 pupils on roll; the figure given in the 2009 Ofsted Report is 299. The pupils are aged 4 – 11. There are, as at 2010, 12 classrooms within the main school building and 3 available in mobile classrooms. There is a Special Education Needs department which caters for children with moderate to complex learning difficulties.

Within the original school grounds there is a separate Pre-School, and a privately run pre and post school club operates from the school.

Mr Quentin Thompson is the school's current headteacher. The school has close ties to The Macclesfield Academy, though many pupils also move on to Fallibroome and All Hallows RC High School.

Famous quotes containing the words history and/or development:

These anyway might think it was important
That human history should not be shortened.
    Robert Frost (1874–1963)

This was the Eastham famous of late years for its camp- meetings, held in a grove near by, to which thousands flock from all parts of the Bay. We conjectured that the reason for the perhaps unusual, if not unhealthful development of the religious sentiment here, was the fact that a large portion of the population are women whose husbands and sons are either abroad on the sea, or else drowned, and there is nobody but they and the ministers left behind.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
