Famous quotes containing the words early life, early, life and/or family:

... goodness is of a modest nature, easily discouraged, and when much elbowed in early life by unabashed vices, is apt to retire into extreme privacy, so that it is more easily believed in by those who construct a selfish old gentleman theoretically, than by those who form the narrower judgments based on his personal acquaintance.
George Eliot [Mary Ann (or Marian)

The shift from the perception of the child as innocent to the perception of the child as competent has greatly increased the demands on contemporary children for maturity, for participating in competitive sports, for early academic achievement, and for protecting themselves against adults who might do them harm. David Elkind (20th century)

    Vladimir Nabokov (1899–1977)

The family is the test of freedom; because the family is the only thing that the free man makes for himself and by himself.
    Gilbert Keith Chesterton (1874–1936)
