Iota Draconis - Planetary System

Planetary System

The planetary companion discovered in 2002 was the first planet known to orbit a giant star. The habitable zone for this star lies in the range of 6.8–13.5 Astronomical Units, placing this planet well inside. The alignment of this planet's orbit may make it directly detectable via the transit method.

Famous quotes containing the words planetary and/or system:

We cannot cheat on DNA. We cannot get round photosynthesis. We cannot say I am not going to give a damn about phytoplankton. All these tiny mechanisms provide the preconditions of our planetary life. To say we do not care is to say in the most literal sense that “we choose death.”
    Barbara Ward (1914–1981)

The United States is unusual among the industrial democracies in the rigidity of the system of ideological control—”indoctrination” we might say—exercised through the mass media.
    Noam Chomsky (b. 1928)
