Black Sabbath Band Members and Former Members On The Album

Iommi's career is closely linked to his time in Black Sabbath, a band he led from its formation in 1968 to its semi-retirement in 1999, and has continued to lead during sporadic reunions (in 2001, and in some form or another every year from 2004–07). Subsequently Iommi formed the band Heaven & Hell, a group featuring a collection of former Black Sabbath band members that had performed together under the Black Sabbath name in the past. A number of musicians associated with Black Sabbath appear on Iommi.

Track nine features Ozzy Osbourne, Black Sabbath vocalist (1968-1979, 1996-2006, 2011-2012) and drummer Bill Ward (1968-1980, 1983-1984, 1994, 1997-2006, 2011-2012+). The track also features Laurence Cottle on bass, the session bassist for Black Sabbath's studio album Headless Cross. Cottle also features on tracks 3-5 and 7-9. Tracks 3 and 7 feature guitarist Brian May (of Queen), who had previously guest performed with Sabbath on their 1989 tour, having guest performed a guitar solo on the Headless Cross album.

Famous quotes containing the words black, sabbath, band, members and/or album:

The secret lies, I think, in his intimate knowledge of the people he is addressing be they black or white, and in the forthrightness with which he speaks of those things which hurt and baffle them.... He allows them their self-respect—indeed, he insists on it.
    James Baldwin (1924–1987)

My paternal grandmother would not light a fire on the Sabbath and piled all Sunday’s washing-up in a bucket, to be dealt with on Monday morning, because the Sabbath was a day of rest—a practice that made my paternal grandfather, the village atheist, as mad as fire. Nevertheless, he willed five quid to the minister, just to be on the safe side.
    Angela Carter (1940–1992)

There was a young lady called Gloria
Who was had by Sir Gerald Du Maurier
    And then by six men
    And Sir Gerald again
And the band of the Waldorf-Astoria.
    Anonymous.

I believe that the members of my family must be as free from suspicion as from actual crime.
Julius Caesar [Gaius Julius Caesar] (100–44 B.C.)

What a long strange trip it’s been.
Robert Hunter, U.S. rock lyricist. “Truckin’,” on the Grateful Dead album American Beauty (1971)
