Interurban

The term "Interurban" stood for both an electric trolley railway and for one of the passenger cars operating on that railway. Interurbans were a type of electric railway specializing primarily in passenger travel between closely spaced communities. They were a hybrid between a streetcar (tram) and a train and are now known as radial railways and by the currently favored term "light rail."
