Interstate 55 in Louisiana - History

History

In April 2010, Reader's Digest listed I-55 in Louisiana as the one of the seven worst roads in America. Originally constructed in the mid-1960s using concrete, the roadway had deteriorated to the point where rehabilitation was needed in 1989-90, but problems remained. In 2010-11, Louisiana rubblized most of the concrete on the interstate from Ponchatoula to the Mississippi state line and replaced it with asphalt.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

They are a sort of post-house,where the Fates
Change horses, making history change its tune,
Then spur away o’er empires and o’er states,
Leaving at last not much besides chronology,
    Excepting the post-obits of theology.
    George Gordon Noel Byron (1788–1824)

All history becomes subjective; in other words there is properly no history, only biography.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

Like their personal lives, women’s history is fragmented, interrupted; a shadow history of human beings whose existence has been shaped by the efforts and the demands of others.
    Elizabeth Janeway (b. 1913)
