Target Cells
While neutrophil granulocytes are the primary target cells of IL-8, there is a relative wide range of cells (endothelial cells, macrophages, mast cells, and keratinocytes) responding to this chemokine, too. The chemoattractant activity of IL-8 in similar concentrations to vertebrates was proven in Tetrahymena pyriformis, which refers to a phylogenetically well-conserved structure and function in the case of this chemokine.

Famous quotes containing the words target and/or cells:
“All of womens aspirationswhether for education, work, or any form of self-determinationultimately rest on their ability to decide whether and when to bear children. —Susan Faludi (20th century)
“The twelve Cells for Incorrigibles ... are also carved out of the solid rock hill. On the walls of one of the cells human liberty is clearly inscribed, with the liberty in significant quotation marks.”
—Administration in the State of Ariz, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)
