History
The ISL was organized for the 1966–67 school year. The league initially comprised eight teams: Chicago Lab, Elgin Academy, Latin, Morgan Park Academy, North Shore, Francis W. Parker, and the no longer existent Glenwood School in Glenwood, Illinois (which closed its high school in 1979) and Harvard-St. George High School in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago. Lake Forest Academy was a member of the ISL for many years before withdrawing from the league in 2008 in search of better athletic competition.

Famous quotes containing the word history:
“There is a constant in the average American imagination and taste, for which the past must be preserved and celebrated in full-scale authentic copy; a philosophy of immortality as duplication. It dominates the relation with the self, with the past, not infrequently with the present, always with History and, even, with the European tradition.”
—Umberto Eco (b. 1932)
“There is no example in history of a revolutionary movement involving such gigantic masses being so bloodless.”
—Leon Trotsky (18791940)
“America is, therefore the land of the future, where, in the ages that lie before us, the burden of the Worlds history shall reveal itself. It is a land of desire for all those who are weary of the historical lumber-room of Old Europe.”
—Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (17701831)
