Immingham TMD - History

History

Originally built by the Great Central Railway in 1912 to service the newly opened Immingham Docks, it was taken over by the LNER and later Eastern Region of British Railways post World War II.

In 1950, it had 120 attached locomotives, which by 1965 with a shed code of 40B, had been reduced to only 27. Locomotive types deployed include LNER Thompson Class B1, LMS Stanier Class 8F, and BR standard class 9F. The shed closed to steam in 1966, one of the last in the Eastern region to do so.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

While the Republic has already acquired a history world-wide, America is still unsettled and unexplored. Like the English in New Holland, we live only on the shores of a continent even yet, and hardly know where the rivers come from which float our navy.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

No event in American history is more misunderstood than the Vietnam War. It was misreported then, and it is misremembered now.
    Richard M. Nixon (b. 1913)

The history of the genesis or the old mythology repeats itself in the experience of every child. He too is a demon or god thrown into a particular chaos, where he strives ever to lead things from disorder into order.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
