History
Founded in 1964 as a Baptist church, Immanuel's congregation met at Lee High School until they were able to obtain their own building. In 1984, the church left the General Association of Regular Baptists and became non-denominational. During its early years, the church grew rapidly and has continued to expand its facilities several times to provide more opportunities for ministry groups on its campus. The latest additions completed in 2011 effectively enlarged the facilities by one-third to include a large enclosed central atrium. Its hallmark is expositional preaching based on the Bible from a theologically conservative point of view. Sermon series typically cover one book of the Bible for an extended period of time. There is also an associated Christian school -- Immanuel Christian School -- which shares some of the church's meeting space and provides education through the eighth grade. Currently, IBC offers three Sunday morning worship services in English and one in Spanish, concurrent with other classes for all age groups, and has a congregation of over 3,500, making the church one of the largest in northern Virginia.
