“True revolutionaries are like Godthey create the world in their own image. Our awesome responsibility to ourselves, to our children, and to the future is to create ourselves in the image of goodness, because the future depends on the nobility of our imaginings.”

“In America a woman loses her independence for ever in the bonds of matrimony. While there is less constraint on girls there than anywhere else, a wife submits to stricter obligations. For the former, her fathers house is a home of freedom and pleasure; for the latter, her husbands is almost a cloister.”
—Alexis de Tocqueville (18051859)
“To become a token womanwhether you win the Nobel Prize or merely get tenure at the cost of denying your sistersis to become something less than a man ... since men are loyal at least to their own world-view, their laws of brotherhood and self-interest.”
—Adrienne Rich (b. 1929)
