Ihsahn - Beliefs

Beliefs

Ihsahn described himself a Satanist in the 1990s. As he explained in 1994, he considered Satanism to be hard to define, as there are different ways of Satanism, and to be more of a category the individual would have to set for themselves. He considered most other adolescents to be "soulless" people, too involved in materialistic things. He said the imprisonment of the other Emperor members had both positive and negative effects since it meant a difficult period for the band, but also gave them publicity and therefore more possibilites to spread their ideas. Ihsahn said he had no need to be physically destructive and therefore no personal connection to the church burnings. In a 1994 interview, Ihsahn described a Social Darwinist influence on his Satanism, saying it is 'not for a weak person', and at the same time, expressing respect towards European Paganism. When interviewed for the documentary Metal: A Headbanger's Journey however, he clearly states "Am I a Satanist? No."

Famous quotes containing the word beliefs:

A man who has humility will have acquired in the last reaches of his beliefs the saving doubt of his own certainty.
    Walter Lippmann (1889–1974)

Both Eliot and Pound condense; their best verse is weighted—Pound’s, with sensual experience primarily, and Eliot’s with beliefs. Where the mind’s life is concerned the senses produce images, and beliefs produce dramatic cries. The condensation is important.
    R.P. Blackmur (1904–1965)

To a first approximation, the intentional strategy consists of treating the object whose behavior you want to predict as a rational agent with beliefs and desires and other mental states exhibiting what Brentano and others call intentionality.
    Daniel Clement Dennett (b. 1942)
