Ichthyomyzon Greeleyi - Current Management

Current Management

Globally the status of the I. greeleyi is "Apparently secure". Further, the short-term trend for the species complies with the stability of the species. Most of the decline probably happened years ago. However,in the long-term there has been a 30-70% decline and some extirpation (NatureServe). In 10 states I. greeleyi is considered vulnerable, imperiled, or critically imperiled. I. greeleyi and I. bdellium have similar statuses which is not surprising considering they inhabit most of the same streams. The major cause of this decline is habitat destruction due to dams, pollution, and siltation (www.naturalheritage.state.pa.us/factsheet).
