Famous quotes containing the words canadian, ice and/or shelves:

We’re definite in Nova Scotia—’bout things like ships ... and fish, the best in the world.
John Rhodes Sturdy, Canadian screenwriter. Richard Rossen. Joyce Cartwright (Ella Raines)

    Sole and self-commanded works,
    Fears not undermining days,
    Grows by decays,
And, by the famous might that lurks
    In reaction and recoil,
Makes flames to freeze, and ice to boil.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

The bells discuss the hour’s gradations,
Dusty shelves hold prayers and proofs:
    Above, Chaldean constellations
    Sparkle over crowded roofs.
    Philip Larkin (1922–1986)
