"I Started a Joke" is a song by the English-Australian rock band Bee Gees from their 1968 album Idea, which was released as a single in December of that year, following the release of the album in September. Curiously, it was not released as a single in the UK, where buyers who could not afford the album had to content themselves with a Polydor version by Heath Hampstead. The song's B-side was "Kilburn Towers". But in France, "Swan Song" was chosen as the B-side.

Famous quotes containing the words started and/or joke:

Being American is to eat a lot of beef steak, and boy, we’ve got a lot more beef steak than any other country, and that’s why you ought to be glad you’re an American. And people have started looking at these big hunks of bloody meat on their plates, you know, and wondering what on earth they think they’re doing.
    Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. (b. 1922)

The most welcome joke to me is the one that takes the place of a heavy, not altogether innocuous thought, at once a cautionary hint of the finger and a flash of the eye.
    Friedrich Nietzsche (1844–1900)
