Hypochlorous Acid - Mode of Disinfectant Action

Mode of Disinfectant Action

Escherichia coli exposed to hypochlorous acid lose viability in less than 100 ms due to inactivation of many vital systems. Hypochlorous acid has a reported LD50 of 0.0104–0.156 ppm and 2.6 ppm caused 100% growth inhibition in 5 minutes. However it should be noted that the concentration required for bactericidal activity is also highly dependent on bacterial concentration.

Famous quotes containing the words mode of, mode and/or action:

Literature exists at the same time in the modes of error and truth; it both betrays and obeys its own mode of being.
    Paul Deman (1919–1983)

Yours of the 24th, asking “the best mode of obtaining a thorough knowledge of the law” is received. The mode is very simple, though laborious, and tedious. It is only to get the books, and read, and study them carefully.... Work, work, work, is the main thing.
    Abraham Lincoln (1809–1865)

Not rarely, and this is especially true of wives and mothers, the motive behind assuming a disproportionate share of work and responsibility is completely unselfish. We want to protect, to spare those of whom we are fond. We forget that, regardless of the motive, the results of such action are almost always destructive and unproductive.
    Hortense Odlum (1892–?)
