Hoyt Radio Tower

Hoyt Radio Tower is the tallest man-made structure in Colorado and one of the tallest in the world. Hoyt Radio Tower is a 608.1-metre (1,995 ft) tall guyed mast near Hoyt, Colorado.

It was built in 2003 by Acme Towers, LLC and is currently owned and operated by the Denver Radio Tower Company for FM-broadcasting as KJHM and KDHT, As well as emergency services communications site. Unlike most other short towers, which are painted red and white in seven alternating bands for aircraft warning, but like most very tall towers, the Hoyt Radio Tower is unpainted and uses strobe lights for aircraft warning.

The Hoyt Radio Tower is not only extremely tall; its basement is also situated 1,509 metres (4,951 ft) above sea level, so it belongs not only to the world's tallest structure, but also to the few supertall structures in the world, whose basement is situated in an altitude of over 1000 metres.

Famous quotes containing the words hoyt, radio and/or tower:

Happy is that mother whose ability to help her children continues on from babyhood and manhood into maturity. Blessed is the son who need not leave his mother at the threshold of the world’s activities, but may always and everywhere have her blessing and her help. Thrice blessed are the son and the mother between whom there exists an association not only physical and affectional, but spiritual and intellectual, and broad and wise as is the scope of each being.
    —Lydia Hoyt Farmer (1842–1903)

Local television shows do not, in general, supply make-up artists. The exception to this is Los Angeles, an unusually generous city in this regard, since they also provide this service for radio appearances.
    Fran Lebowitz (b. 1950)

It is not their bones or hide or tallow that I love most. It is the living spirit of the tree, not its spirit of turpentine, with which I sympathize, and which heals my cuts. It is as immortal as I am, and perchance will go to as high a heaven, there to tower above me still.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
