Origin of The Band Name
The band takes its name from the leavening ingredient found in Martha White flour and cornmeal products. Hot Rize often performs the theme song to the now defunct Martha White Biscuit and Cornbread Time. Flatt and Scruggs performed the theme song when they appeared on WSM's Martha White Biscuit and Cornbread Time radio show in the late 1950s and early 1960s.

—Charles Sanders Peirce (18391914)
“Citizens Band radio renders one accessible to a wide variety of people from all walks of life. It should not be forgotten that all walks of life include conceptual artists, dry cleaners, and living poets.”
