Famous quotes containing the words poet and/or critic:

None but a poet can write a tragedy. For tragedy is nothing less than pain transmuted into exaltation by the alchemy of poetry.
    Edith Hamilton (1867–1963)

Great is paint; nay, God is the painter; and we rightly accuse the critic who destroys too many illusions. Society does not love its unmaskers.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
