Hillview Middle School is a public middle school in Menlo Park, California, part of the Menlo Park City School District. It has been named a California Distinguished School eight times—more than any other school in the state. Hillview has also been recognized as a national Blue Ribbon School by the United States Department of Education. The school campus features many detailed murals painted by the Mural Elective class on school buildings.
The school is located at the corner of Santa Cruz Avenue and Elder Avenue in Menlo Park. With a 2009 enrollment of 678 students, it is the only middle school for sixth through eighth grade students in the Menlo Park City School District. The school staff includes 36 full- or part-time teachers, 2 counselors, 1 librarian, 3 part-time student activities directors, 4 aides, 8 classified staff members, a vice-principal, and a principal.
Hillview is currently undergoing a major expansion and renovation. In essence, an entirely new middle school is being built on what was the Hillview basketball and tennis courts and playing fields. Once completed, the original campus buildings will be razed. The recently built gym and band room will remain. The new school is slated to open on Sept. 4th, 2012.
Their mascot was originally the Hurricanes but was changed in the late 1990s to the Hawks.
In the year of 2010, the Hillview School switched to an academy system, where groups of approximately 95 students all share teachers for English, Science, Math, and History
