High School Big Shot - Mystery Science Theater 3000

Mystery Science Theater 3000

The film was featured in a sixth-season episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000. Main topics of ridicules for the writers were Marv's wimpy demeanor, huge lips and awkward appearance, his father's pathetic alcoholism, and the overall bleak nature of the film. The ending in particular prompted the writers to dub it "one of the most depressing films we've ever seen" and include a skit where the characters of the show "kill" each other with water guns to mock the fact that most of the major characters were killed in a brief moment of time, nearly one after the other.

Famous quotes containing the words mystery, science and/or theater:

    There is no mystery in the luminous lines
    Of that high, animal face
    The smile, sad, humouring and equal
    Blesses without obliging
    Loves without condescension;
    Denis Devlin (1908–1959)

    He has been described as “an innkeeper who hated his guests, a philosopher, and poet who left no written record of his thought, a despiser of women who gave all he had to one, an aristocrat, a proletarian, a pagan, an arcadian, an atheist, a lover of beauty, and, inadvertently, the stepfather of domestic science in America.”
    —Administration in the State of Colo, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)

    It’s one of the tragic ironies of the theater that only one man in it can count on steady work—the night watchman.
    Tallulah Bankhead (1903–1968)
