High-altitude Platform - Limitation Due To Power

Limitation Due To Power

A HAP can be a manned or unmanned aeroplane, balloon, or an airship. All require electrical power to keep themselves and their payload functional. While current HAPs are powered by batteries or engines, mission time is limited by the need for recharging/refueling. Therefore, alternative means are being considered for the future. Solar energy is one of best options currently being used for under trial HAPs (Helios, Lindstrand HALE).

Laser propulsion (Lightcraft) might be useful as an additional ground based power source.

Famous quotes containing the words limitation, due and/or power:

The French are certainly misunderstood:Mbut whether the fault is theirs, in not sufficiently explaining themselves; or speaking with that exact limitation and precision which one would expect ... or whether the fault may not be altogether on our side ... I shall not decide.
    Laurence Sterne (1713–1768)

The resistance we make to our passions is due to their weakness, not our strength.
François, Duc De La Rochefoucauld (1613–1680)

The individual protests against the world, but he doesn’t get beyond protest, he is just a single protester. When he wants to be more than that, he has to counter power with power, he has to oppose the system with another system.
    Friedrich Dürrenmatt (1921–1990)
