History
Henry Horner Homes originally consisted of 69 high-rise buildings along with low-rise buildings (69 units) and was completed in 1969. The Henry Horner Homes extension was added in 1969, which included 696 multi-story units. The original buildings consisted of two 15-story buildings and eight 7-story buildings, while the extension consisted of four 14-story buildings and two 8-story buildings all together totaling 1656 units. Gang activity has plagued the housing development for decades. The gangs, such as the Blackstone Rangers, assert authority over the area and residents are often in the middle of gang warfare and criminal activity.

Famous quotes containing the word history:
“I cannot be much pleased without an appearance of truth; at least of possibilityI wish the history to be natural though the sentiments are refined; and the characters to be probable, though their behaviour is excelling.”
—Frances Burney (17521840)
“To history therefore I must refer for answer, in which it would be an unhappy passage indeed, which should shew by what fatal indulgence of subordinate views and passions, a contest for an atom had defeated well founded prospects of giving liberty to half the globe.”
—Thomas Jefferson (17431826)
“The second day of July 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more”
—John Adams (17351826)
