Emergency Service

Except in the Wellington region, emergency and non-urgent ambulance transportation is primarily carried out by the charitable organization, St. John New Zealand. Ambulance services in metropolitan Wellington and in Kapiti are provided by the Wellington Free Ambulance organisation. The Wairarapa DHB maintains its own ambulance service.

Famous quotes containing the words emergency and/or service:

War-making is one of the few activities that people are not supposed to view “realistically”; that is, with an eye to expense and practical outcome. In all-out war, expenditure is all-out, unprudent—war being defined as an emergency in which no sacrifice is excessive.
    Susan Sontag (b. 1933)

The service a man renders his friend is trivial and selfish, compared with the service he knows his friend stood in readiness to yield him, alike before he had begun to serve his friend, and now also. Compared with that good-will I bear my friend, the benefit it is in my power to render him seems small.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
