Hasdrubal

Hasdrubal (in Latin transliteration; the original Phoenician form of the name was Azruba'al, lit. "the help of Baal") was the name of several Carthaginian generals of the First and Second Punic Wars. Among them the most famous are:

  • Hasdrubal (son of Hamilcar) fought in Sicily
  • Hasdrubal the Fair, son-in-law of Hamilcar Barca
  • Hasdrubal (Barcid), son of Hamilcar Barca and brother of Hannibal and Mago
  • Hasdrubal Gisco, another commander in the Second Punic War
  • Hasdrubal the Boeotarch was also the general of Punic forces in the Third Punic War
  • Hasdrubal, commander of the service corps
  • original name of Carthaginian Clitomachus (philosopher)
