Harriet Sansom Harris - Early Years

Early Years

Born in Fort Worth, Texas, Harriet (on her mother's side) is a descendant of Marion Sansom, a 20th century rancher and civic leader (Sansom Park is named after him). Harris started acting as a youngster, attending Arlington Heights High School. At age 17 she was accepted at the Juilliard School's Drama Division (1973-1977, Group 6) where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Her sister is Elatia Harris.

After graduation from Juilliard, she joined John Houseman's touring repertory company The Acting Company, where she stayed for three years. During this time, she performed in productions of Shakespeare's King Lear and Romeo and Juliet, the classic Antigone, and alongside Frances Conroy in Bertolt Brecht's Mother Courage and Her Children.

Famous quotes containing the words early and/or years:

Quintilian [educational writer in Rome around A.D. 100] thought that the earliest years of the child’s life were crucial. Education should start earlier than age seven, within the family. It should not be so hard as to give the child an aversion to learning. Rather, these early lessons would take the form of play—that embryonic notion of kindergarten.
    C. John Sommerville (20th century)

A man may take care of a furnace for twenty-five years and still forget to duck his head when he starts going down the cellar stairs.
    Robert Benchley (1889–1945)
