The Harbour Line is a branch of the Mumbai Suburban Railway. It is operated by Central Railways. It covers most of Navi Mumbai and the eastern areas of Mumbai. It's termini are Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST), Andheri and Panvel on the CST-Andheri, CST-Panvel and Panvel-Andheri routes. It also has termini at Nerul and Vashi on t
All harbour line services operate as slow services. The line is a double line and therefore does not have any fast trains on it. A few sections on the line are known for slums, stench and filth along the tracks. The newly designed train stations in Navi Mumbai are a contrast with the old, congested and overcrowded stations within the Mumbai city limits
The line then splits from the main line at Sandhurst Road where the line becomes elevated up till Sewri. At Wadala Road, the line branches into two parts. The first line joins with the Western Line at Mahim and terminates at Andheri. The second line follows through Mankhurd into the city of Navi Mumbai, where it again branches out into two lines, one going to the other to Panvel. The first stop outside Mumbai is the township of Vashi. The harbour line shares a common station at Kurla with the Central Line, where it turns east towards Navi Mumbai. The Harbour line further bifurcates at Vashi into two lines — while the other continues to Panvel. A large section of the harbour line is elevated.
This proved to be a boon for most commuters headed in either direction as travelling via Kurla was time consuming and required changing a train midway.Read more about Harbour Line (Mumbai Suburban Railway): History, Stations, Future Development
Famous quotes containing the words harbour, line and/or suburban:
“Patience, the beggars virtue, Shall find no harbour here.”
—Philip Massinger (15831640)
“Our job is now clear. All Americans must be prepared to make, on a 24 hour schedule, every war weapon possible and the war factory line will use men and materials which will bring, the war effort to every man, woman, and child in America. All one hundred thirty million of us will be needed to answer the sunrise stealth of the Sabbath Day Assassins.”
—Lyndon Baines Johnson (19081973)
“More than illness or death, the American journalist fears standing alone against the whim of his owners or the prejudices of his audience. Deprive William Safire of the insignia of the New York Times, and he would have a hard time selling his truths to a weekly broadsheet in suburban Duluth.”
—Lewis H. Lapham (b. 1935)
