The Future
The first stage in preparing the area for use as the 2012 Olympic Park will be the removal of the pylons that run from here to Canning Town and the horse brigade tower located south east. Due to its proximity to the Olympic Park, Hackney Wick is receiving (2006, onwards) community and public realm development grants. The Draft Phase 1 Hackney Wick Area Action Plan was developed for consultation in November 2009 by Hackney Council as a strategy to guide and manage future change in the area. This should further contribute to improvements in the area, although there are fears that development may price many residents, particularly artists, out of the area.
Conversely, concerns have been raised over some of the local effects of the Olympic Park development, including the potential impact to the future of the century-old Manor Garden Allotments, which has inspired a vocal community campaign.

Famous quotes containing the words the future and/or future:
“A friend is Janus-faced: he looks to the past and the future. He is the child of all my foregoing hours, the prophet of those to come, and the harbinger of a greater friend.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“The most remarkable aspect of the transition we are living through is not so much the passage from want to affluence as the passage from labor to leisure.... Leisure contains the future, it is the new horizon.... The prospect then is one of unremitting labor to bequeath to future generations a chance of founding a society of leisure that will overcome the demands and compulsions of productive labor so that time may be devoted to creative activities or simply to pleasure and happiness.”
—Henri Lefebvre (b. 1901)
“Bobby read his future in women; his girls were omens, changes in the weather, and hed sit all night in the Gentleman Loser waiting for the season to lay a new face down in front of him like a card.”
—William Gibson (b. 1948)
