The University Grants Commission has recognized the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University and has declared it eligible for receiving Central assistance in terms of Rules under Section 12-B of the U.G.C. Act, 1956. Earlier the University had already been included in the list of Universities maintained by the Commission under Section 2(f) of the U.G.C. Act. The Government of Delhi continued to provide full grant to meet the recurring as well as non-recurring expenditure for the first five years that is up to 2004-2005, in addition to the matching grant required to be provided for Development Corpus Fund, every year.
Since 2005-2006 onwards, that is after five years of establishment of university, the Government of Delhi meets the demand of non-recurring expenditures only, which includes, building maintenance, purchase of laboratory equipment, books, office furniture and other technical and non-technical equipment.
