Future Evolution
In the years to come, GSI will evolve to an international structure named FAIR for Facility for Antiprotons and Ion Research. The first beam is expected by 2013. Among the improvements, two new synchrotrons (with respective magnetic rigidity 100 and 300 Tm), a Super-FRS and several new rings among which one that can be used for antimatter research.
The creation of FAIR was co-signed on 7 November 2007 by 13 countries: Austria, Finland, France, Germany, India, Italy, Romania, Russia, Slovenia, Sweden, United Kingdom, Spain and Poland. Representatives included Annette Schavan, the German federal minister of science and Roland Koch, the prime minister of the state of Hesse.

Famous quotes containing the words future and/or evolution:
“The future is inevitable and precise, but it may not occur. God lurks in the gaps.”
—Jorge Luis Borges (18991986)
“Analyze theory-building how we will, we all must start in the middle. Our conceptual firsts are middle-sized, middle-distanced objects, and our introduction to them and to everything comes midway in the cultural evolution of the race.”
—Willard Van Orman Quine (b. 1908)
