Ground Glass

Ground glass is glass whose surface has been ground to produce a flat but rough (matte) finish.

Ground glass surfaces have many applications, ranging from mere ornamentation on windows and table glassware to scientific uses in optics and laboratory glassware.

Famous quotes containing the words ground and/or glass:

    Any historian of the literature of the modern age will take virtually for granted the adversary intention, the actually subversive intention, that characterizes modern writing—he will perceive its clear purpose of detaching the reader from the habits of thought and feeling that the larger culture imposes, of giving him a ground and a vantage point from which to judge and condemn, and perhaps revise, the culture that produces him.
    Lionel Trilling (1905–1975)

    You doubt we read the stars on high,
    Nathless we read your fortunes true;
    The stars may hide in the upper sky,
    But without glass we fathom you.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
