Rank Exceptions
There are two more ranks that can be found on Hellenic Merchant Marine vessels, namely Staff Captain and Staff Chief Engineer. Both these ranks can be found only on passenger and cruiser-pleasure yachts. These officers assist the Captain and the Chief Engineer in turn while both have acquired the Diploma of Captain and Chief Engineer. However, they have a smaller service record and wait for their turn for the top of the line rank.

Famous quotes containing the words rank and/or exceptions:
“I like sometimes to take rank hold on life and spend my day more as the animals do. Perhaps I have owed to this employment and to hunting, when quite young, my closest acquaintance with Nature. They early introduce us to and detain us in scenery with which otherwise, at that age, we should have little acquaintance.”
—Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
“... people were so ridiculous with their illusions, carrying their fools’ caps unawares, thinking their own lies opaque while everybody else’s were transparent, making themselves exceptions to everything, as if when all the world looked yellow under a lamp they alone were rosy.”
—George Eliot [Mary Ann (or Marian)
