Granville Island Brewing - History

History

Granville Island Brewing was founded in 1984 by entrepreneur Mitch Taylor. In order to guarantee a high quality, German-style beer and the successful start of the new company on the market, Taylor recruited the company's first diploma-holding brewmaster, Rainer Kallähne, in 1983. Kallähne was jointly responsible for planning, building and starting up Granville Island Brewing during its early days. The current brewmaster, Vern Lambourne, joined Granville Island Brewing in 2002. Between 1984 and 2005 five new beers were released, greatly expanding the company's portfolio. In August 2005, Andrew Peller Wines purchased Granville Island Brewing from Taylor and in 2006 renovated the original facilities beneath the Granville Bridge and expanded into new, larger facilities located in Kelowna. In 2009 Molson Coors Canada purchased Granville Island Brewing through its subsidiary, Creemore Springs Brewing, from Andrew Peller Wines.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

History does nothing; it does not possess immense riches, it does not fight battles. It is men, real, living, who do all this.... It is not “history” which uses men as a means of achieving—as if it were an individual person—its own ends. History is nothing but the activity of men in pursuit of their ends.
    Karl Marx (1818–1883)

Yet poetry, though the last and finest result, is a natural fruit. As naturally as the oak bears an acorn, and the vine a gourd, man bears a poem, either spoken or done. It is the chief and most memorable success, for history is but a prose narrative of poetic deeds.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

I believe that in the history of art and of thought there has always been at every living moment of culture a “will to renewal.” This is not the prerogative of the last decade only. All history is nothing but a succession of “crises”Mof rupture, repudiation and resistance.... When there is no “crisis,” there is stagnation, petrification and death. All thought, all art is aggressive.
    Eugène Ionesco (b. 1912)
