His son, Scott Durie, was a youth player at Rangers and signed for East Fife in 2010.
In February 2006, Durie and two friends were convicted of a breach of the peace and fined £100 in relation to an incident at Waverley station in November 2004. They were cleared on a charge of assaulting a railway worker, while an allegation that they had struggled with the arresting police officers was deleted during the trial.
