Golden Star is a carambola cultivar that was developed at the Tropical Research and Education Center of the Florida Agricultural Experiment Station (FAES), an agricultural research program of the University of Florida's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences.
The cultivar was released from the FAES in 1965.
The Golden Star carambola is now used as a main source of rootstocks for high-pH, calcareous soils.
Famous quotes containing the words golden and/or star:
“Go, throng each others drawing-rooms,
Ye idols of a petty clique:
Strut your brief hour in borrowed plumes,
And make your penny-trumpets squeak:
Deck your dull talk with pilfered shreds
Of learning from a noble time,
And oil each others little heads
With mutual Flatterys golden slime.”
—Lewis Carroll [Charles Lutwidge Dodgson] (18321898)
“Firmness yclept in heroes, kings and seamen,
That is, when they succeed; but greatly blamed
As obstinacy, both in men and women,
Wheneer their triumph pales, or star is tamed
And twill perplex the casuist in morality
To fix the due bounds of this dangerous quality.”
—George Gordon Noel Byron (17881824)
