The Golden Spin of Zagreb (Croatian: Zlatna pirueta Zagreba) is an annual senior-level figure skating competition, held yearly in Zagreb, Croatia. Medals are awarded in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing, although, in some years, not every discipline is included. The equivalent for junior-level (and below) skaters is the Golden Bear of Zagreb.
The 2001 Golden Spin of Zagreb was used as the qualifying competition for the 2002 Winter Olympics.
Famous quotes containing the words golden and/or spin:
“She, as a veil down to the slender waist,
Her unadorned golden tresses wore
Dishevelled, but in wanton ringlets waved
As the vine curls her tendrils, which implied
Subjection, but required with gentle sway,
And by her yielded, by him best received,
Yielded with coy submission, modest pride,
And sweet, reluctant, amorous delay.
Nor those mysterious parts were then concealed:
Then was not guilty shame: dishonest Shame
Of Natures works, Honour dishonourable.”
—John Milton (16081674)
“Words can have no single fixed meaning. Like wayward electrons, they can spin away from their initial orbit and enter a wider magnetic field. No one owns them or has a proprietary right to dictate how they will be used.”
—David Lehman (b. 1948)
