A golden cat is a medium-sized wild cat belonging to either the genus Catopuma or Profelis. There are three species of golden cats:
- African Golden Cat, Profelis aurata
- Asian Golden Cat, Catopuma temminckii
- Bay Cat, Catopuma badia
Golden cats inhabit rainforests and hunt on the ground. Their fur is normally reddish brown or golden brown, although there are several color variants. According to recent studies the African species is not closely related to the two Asian species; the similarity appears to be a result of convergent evolution.
Famous quotes containing the words golden and/or cat:
“He, that holds fast the golden mean,
And lives contentedly between
The little and the great,
Feels not the wants that pinch the poor,
Nor plagues that haunt the rich mans door,
Imbittring all his state.”
—Horace [Quintus Horatius Flaccus] (658)
“This morning I threw up at a board meeting. I was sure the cat was out of the bag, but no one seemed to think anything about it; apparently its quite common for people to throw up at board meetings.”
—Jane Wagner (b. 1935)
