Gold Rush - Mining Industry Today

Mining Industry Today

There are about 10 to 30 million small-scale miners around the world, according to Communities and Small-Scale Mining (CASM). Approximately 100 million people are directly or indirectly dependent on small-scale mining. For example, there are 800,000 to 1.5 million artisanal miners in Democratic Republic of Congo, 350,000 to 650,000 in Sierra Leone, and 150,000 to 250,000 in Ghana, with millions more across Africa.

Famous quotes containing the words mining, industry and/or today:

It’s a mining town in lotus land.
    F. Scott Fitzgerald (1896–1940)

I have never yet spoken from a public platform about women in industry that someone has not said, “But things are far better than they used to be.” I confess to impatience with persons who are satisfied with a dangerously slow tempo of progress for half of society in an age which requires a much faster tempo than in the days that “used to be.” Let us use what might be instead of what has been as our yardstick!
    Mary Barnett Gilson (1877–?)

What we’re saying today is that you’re either part of the solution or you’re part of the problem.
    Eldridge Cleaver (b. 1935)
