Goguac Lake - Liberty Amusement Park

Liberty Amusement Park

Like many lakes throughout the early 20th Century, Goguac Lake was once home to a small amusement park, called Liberty Amusement Park. It boasted a wooden roller coaster as well as a large dance hall. Construction started in the late 1890s and the park operated at least through the 1912 season. Pictures and further information can be found at Willard Library.

Famous quotes containing the words liberty, amusement and/or park:

What is Americanism? Every one has a different answer. Some people say it is never to submit to the dictation of a King. Others say Americanism is the pride of liberty and the defence of an insult to the flag with their gore. When some half-developed person tramples on that flag, we should be ready to pour out the blood of the nation, they say. But do we not sit in silence when that flag waves over living conditions which should be an insult to all patriotism?
    Anna Howard Shaw (1847–1919)

Business is, emphatically, the amusement of Americans, and, to be in keeping with their character, every thing written for their amusement should partake of the useful.
H., U.S. women’s magazine contributor. American Ladies Magazine (February 1828)

The label of liberalism is hardly a sentence to public igominy: otherwise Bruce Springsteen would still be rehabilitating used Cadillacs in Asbury Park and Jane Fonda, for all we know, would be just another overweight housewife.
    Barbara Ehrenreich (b. 1941)
