Glory Glory (football Chant) - History

History

Hibernian were the first team to popularise the song with the release of a record by Hector Nicol in the 1950s ("Glory Glory to the Hibees"). The same underlying tune was used in "Glory Glory Tottenham Hotspur", which can be traced back to the 1960s. Hibernian also recorded "Glory Glory to the Hibees" in the 1970s after their famous 7–0 win over local rivals Hearts. Tottenham's version was recorded as the B-side for the 1981 FA Cup single, "Ossie's Dream".

Famous quotes containing the word history:

All things are moral. That soul, which within us is a sentiment, outside of us is a law. We feel its inspiration; out there in history we can see its fatal strength.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

No one is ahead of his time, it is only that the particular variety of creating his time is the one that his contemporaries who are also creating their own time refuse to accept.... For a very long time everybody refuses and then almost without a pause almost everybody accepts. In the history of the refused in the arts and literature the rapidity of the change is always startling.
    Gertrude Stein (1874–1946)

For a transitory enchanted moment man must have held his breath in the presence of this continent, compelled into an aesthetic contemplation he neither understood nor desired, face to face for the last time in history with something commensurate to his capacity for wonder.
    F. Scott Fitzgerald (1896–1940)
