Gilman Hall - Gilman Hall Today

Gilman Hall Today

Gilman Hall has been used continuously by the College of Chemistry for 80 years; today it is occupied by the Department of Chemical Engineering. However, its laboratory equipment is no longer suitable for modern chemical research and as such, the University has renovated and converted some of the rooms into offices, classrooms, and small research laboratories.

Following the FUSRAP remediation work, Gillman Hall has been certified as safe to current radiologic standards. The University of California is responsible for maintenance and monitoring of the shielded contamination.

Famous quotes containing the words gilman, hall and/or today:

The fact that women in the home have shut themselves away from the thought and life of the world has done much to retard progress. We fill the world with the children of 20th century A.D. fathers and 20th century B.C. mothers.
    —Charlotte Perkins Gilman (1860–1935)

Sweet death, small son, our instrument
    Of immortality,
    Your cries and hungers document
    Our bodily decay.
    —Donald Hall (b. 1928)

In times past there were rituals of passage that conducted a boy into manhood, where other men passed along the wisdom and responsibilities that needed to be shared. But today we have no rituals. We are not conducted into manhood; we simply find ourselves there.
    Kent Nerburn (20th century)
