Dropped His Habeas Petition

On March 10, 2009 US District Court Judge Emmet Sullivan dismissed a habeas corpus petition filed on Al Sharbi's behalf. Sullivan dismissed the petition, which had been initiated by Al Sharbi's father, at Al Sharbi's own request. Al Sharbi's lawyer Robert Rachlin confirmed that Al Sharbi had consistently declined all assistance, and described him as "an aspiring martyr".

Famous quotes containing the words dropped and/or petition:

“If I hit him, he’ll hit me too,” Anton Petrovich thought in a flash. He pulled off the glove with a final yank and threw it awkwardly at Berg. The glove slapped against the wall and dropped into the washstand pitcher.
    “Good shot,” said Berg.
    Vladimir Nabokov (1899–1977)

Maybe we were the blind mechanics of disaster, but you don’t pin the guilt on the scientists that easily. You might as well pin it on M motherhood.... Every man who ever worked on this thing told you what would happen. The scientists signed petition after petition, but nobody listened. There was a choice. It was build the bombs and use them, or risk that the United States and the Soviet Union and the rest of us would find some way to go on living.
