Annemans was a co-author of the 70 steps plan of the Vlaams Blok, a plan where positions supposedly were taken in contradiction with a number of international Human Rights treaties. A reaction by Annemans to this was:
- "The Vlaams Blok indeed does not feel bound by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This UN-declaration was written together with people from Senegal and Côte d'Ivoire. Here in Borgerhout, we don't have to take that into account."
After the Vlaams Blok was condemned by the Belgian High Court for pursuing permanent incitement to discrimination and racial segregation, Annemans pronounced the following words at a Vlaams Blok congress:
- "The names of all the key legal players in the trial of the Vlaams Blok are firmly engraved in my memory. They are warned for the rest of their career." (15 November 2004)

Famous quotes containing the word opinions:
“A majority, held in restraint by constitutional checks, and limitations, and always changing easily, with deliberate changes of popular opinions and sentiments, is the only true sovereign of a free people.”
—Abraham Lincoln (18091865)
“Eccentricity is not, as dull people would have us believe, a form of madness. It is often a kind of innocent pride, and the man of genius and the aristocrat are frequently regarded as eccentrics because genius and aristocrat are entirely unafraid of and uninfluenced by the opinions and vagaries of the crowd.”
—Dame Edith Sitwell (18871964)
“There is much to be said in favour of modern journalism. By giving us the opinions of the uneducated, it keeps us in touch with the ignorance of the community. By carefully chronicling the current events of contemporary life, it shows us of what very little importance such events really are. By invariably discussing the unnecessary, it makes us understand what things are requisite for culture, and what are not.”
—Oscar Wilde (18541900)
