Ships and Other Vessels
A total of 27 ships and boats from the aforementioned institutions are in operation (Bundespolizei: six ships; Wasserzoll: eight customs cutters, four customs cruisers; WSV: three multi-purpose ships; BLE: three fishery protection boats, three fishery research ships).
The ships are all marked with the legend "Küstenwache" as well as a black-red-gold signet on the hull and the coast guard's coat-of-arms. However, the hull colour differs from agency to agency: blue for the Bundespolizei, green for the Wasserzoll and black for the WSV and BLE.
A number of helicopters and planes are in use as well.

Famous quotes containing the words ships and, ships and/or vessels:
“Havent you heard, though,
About the ships where war has found them out
At sea, about the towns where war has come
Through opening clouds at night with droning speed
Further oerhead than all but stars and angels
And children in the ships and in the towns?”
—Robert Frost (18741963)
“I have seen old ships sail like swans asleep”
—James Elroy Flecker (18841919)
“First, there is the power of the Wind, constantly exerted over the globe.... Here is an almost incalculable power at our disposal, yet how trifling the use we make of it! It only serves to turn a few mills, blow a few vessels across the ocean, and a few trivial ends besides. What a poor compliment do we pay to our indefatigable and energetic servant!”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
