George Ragsdale (born April 4, 1951) is a former professional American football player who played running back for three seasons for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Ragsdale more commonly was called on to return kicks on special teams. He also was an All-Conference running back for Dudley.
When Ragsdale's contract was not renewed with the Buccaneers, he left the National Football League for the new and seemingly deep-pocketed, USFL. Ragsdale signed with the newly formed, Tampa Bay Bandits in the fall of 1982. The Bandits shared facilities with his old team, the Buccaneers of the NFL.
In the very first game for the brand new Tampa Bay Bandits, in spring 1983, Ragsdale was set to return the inaugural kick off. Ragsdale broke his leg in that opening kick and never played professional football again. He remained on contract and on the roster through 1985, when the USFL and the Tampa Bay Bandits franchise, after 3 winning seasons proved unprofitable and folded.
In 1985, Ragsdale and his family moved to North Carolina for a coaching job. He is currently the interim head football coach at his alma mater, North Carolina A & T University in Greensboro.
